CANADIAN MENS SOCCER TEAM MAKES HISTORY!
The Canadian Men's National Team has given soccer fans across the country plenty to celebrate during an exciting FIFA World Cup campaign, inspiring communities and future generations of soccer players from coast to coast!!
Canada's journey through the group stage showcased the team's determination and quality. A hard-fought draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina was followed by a commanding 6-0 victory over Qatar before a narrow contest against Switzerland rounded out the group stage. Those performances earned Canada a place in the tournament's knockout rounds and continued to build excitement across the country.
WYSA was proud to join in the excitement by hosting a community watch party at Assiniboine Park for Canada's match against Qatar. Families, players, coaches, and supporters gathered to cheer on the national team in an incredible atmosphere that celebrated both the game and Canada's growing soccer culture, which resulted in a record-breaking 6-0 thrashing of the Qatar side who were reduced to 9 players.
The celebrations haven't stopped there, as throughout the tournament, WYSA has partnered with Boston Pizza Winnipeg and surrounding locations to host additional watch parties, giving members of our soccer community the opportunity to come together, share in the excitement, and support Canada on the world's biggest stage.
History was made in Canada's first knockout match against South Africa. With the match seemingly destined for extra time, Stephen Eustáquio delivered a moment that Canadian soccer fans will never forget. In the 92nd minute, Eustáquio found the back of the net to secure a dramatic 1-0 victory, sending the Canadian Men’s National Team to a historic Round of 16 appearance.
